One by one by Japanese hand

Okayama Japan is known for its traditional craftsmanship in denim production, of which selvedge denim is a part. The denim-making techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation by skilled Japanese craftsmen are the reason for the high quality of our products.

Japanese denim fabrics are known worldwide for their high quality, and Okayama is known as one of the most famous denim-producing areas in the world.

As evidence of Okayama denim's global reputation, it has been used by some of the most prestigious luxury brands. Although we cannot tell you their names on this website, UTOGARIA JAPAN STUDIO's selvedge fabric makers and processing factories allow you to experience firsthand how Japanese master craftsmanship supports the world's most valuable fashions.

The reason why Kojima in Okayama Prefecture became the center of denim jeans production in Japan was because historically all the technical conditions for manufacturing denim fabric were in place. The technology for manufacturing thick cotton fabrics was inherited from canvas manufacturing, the technology for sewing thick cotton fabrics was inherited from tabi (socks) and school uniform manufacturing, and the technology for dyeing threads indigo blue was inherited from Bingo Kasuri, a traditional craft that has been practiced since the Edo period (1603-1868).

Denim that is recognized as the highest quality in the world comes from the hands of Kojima's denim-loving craft people.
